Universal Credit and NHS health cost

November 28th, 2024

Not everyone getting Universal Credit is entitled to help with their health costs. However, it's worth knowing that some individuals on UC may qualify for exemptions, depending on their income.

If you are entitled because you get UC and your latest take-home pay is under the certain limit, you could get:

  • Free NHS prescriptions

  • Free NHS dental treatment

  • Free NHS sight tests

  • Free NHS wigs and fabric supports

  • Help with the cost of glasses or contact lenses

  • Refunds of necessary travel costs to receive NHS treatment

Please remember to pay for health costs if you're unsure of your NHS eligibility, you can claim a refund once your entitlement is confirmed.

Verifying eligibility might be challenging, so for more information, visit Help with health costs for people getting Universal Credit - NHS (www.nhs.uk) or contact us.

Our helplines are open from Monday to Thursday, 10 am to 4 pm:
