We contributed to an article on Jeremy Clarkson’s Grand Tour show published by the daily Star on 13 December 2016. The episode shows Richard Hammond playing ‘a migrant’ who is then smuggled in the booth of Audi through the border. You can read the article here.
We were appalled on learning about the episode and portrayal of a migrant as an illegal cargo. We trust the show uses this scene to expose and ridicule some narratives liking expats and mobile workers to cargo that can be shipped from country to country. We strongly protest against such rhetoric and emphasise that all people regardless where they were born are humans with their own distinct experiences, aspirations and dreams. People are not cargo.
