On Saturday, 10 September, we hosted an awareness-raising seminar for Romanian communities in Brent. It went extremely well and we received lots of great feedback!
Thank you all agencies and organisations for presenting essential facts about rights of Eastern Europeans in the UK:
Acas – Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service talking about employment rights
HSE – Health & Safety Executive talking about principles of health and safety in construction
GLA – Gangmasters’ Licensing Authority talking about exploitation and trafficking of Eastern European workers
RPRS – Association of Romanian Professionals talking about recognition of Romanian qualifications in the UK
During the event we held space for surgeries from: Brent Council about employment and skills, Advice4Renters on rights of private renters in Brent, and the Metropolitan Police on all aspects of safety. Thank you!
Huge thanks to the Mayor of Brent Council and the Deputy Leader of the Council for wonderful addresses to our audience and making us all feel welcome in Brent. Thanks to Cllr Roxanne Mashari for a presentation about how Brent council can help residents and what to do to get involved in a local decision-making.
The event ended with Questions & Answers session. There were so many questions we could stay all night!
Finally, notice some tantalising refreshments we had prepared: delicious Romanian baked good, Polish croquettes and British biscuits. Huge thanks to all our volunteers – without you we wouldn’t make it happen!!! See you in Harrow!
