The Ambassador of the Republic of Poland Mr Witold Sobkow invited us to celebrate Christmas in the Polish Embassy in London. It was an excellent opportunity to exchange information on needs of disadvantaged Poles in the UK and share good practice of working with them. We met colleagues from the Ollalo House, St. Mungo’s Broadway, Glass Door and many other organisations and institutions concerned with welfare of the most disadvantaged and excluded. One of the hotly discussed issues was support for people suffering from mental health issues, such as depression and anxiety. We also discussed available support for Polish rough sleepers and people at risk of homelessness. One of points of interest was practice of the Home Office of removing Polish migrants from the UK for breaching ‘treaty rights’: not being employed, self-employed, self-sufficient or a student. Finally, we exchanged information on increased deportations of Poles with criminal record form the UK.
